Knitty Gritty NYC – Co-Ed Clothed
July 21 @ 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT$15.00
Hello Fellow Knitters! Knitty Gritty NYC ‘Headquarters’ is finally open for business and by that I mean, we moved and were hosting more events! 4-5 events a month now that we have the space for it!
THIS IS OUR FIRST CO-ED CLOTHED EVENT!! ALL ARE WELCOME!!! No need to be anything but who you are! Everything about our event is the same as the Nude Events except that no one will be Nude.
All our events are open to total beginners! Every event we will do a brush up workshop learning the fundamentals of knitting. If you are a beginner there is no need to arrive with a project in mind but it is helpful if you bring your own set of needles so you can take them home to practice after the event is over. YouTube Tutorials are always an option if you’re an overachiever. Experienced knitters are also welcome and encourage to attend. If you are experienced it’s fine to bring a project you happen to be working or materials for a project you’re thinking of starting but perhaps need some guidance.
Feel free to invite pals.
These events tend to be rather popular and fill up quickly. To save your spot you must register for this event before hand. Cover charge for the event is $15 that will be paid while making the reservation. What you get for that cover includes Snack Foods and Alcoholic Beverages and Mixers which will be provided. Refunds are possible up to 1 day before the event if something comes up for you. However, please try to make sure you are available for the event before reserving a spot so as not to take a coveted spot away from someone else. All reservations are on a first come-first serve basis through this event page. Any no call, no show covers will be considered donations to KnittyGritty. Thanks for your understanding with this!
211 W 149th Street Apt 4A (3 Train to 148th St or ABCD to 145th St and Walk)
Our Apartment is located off 149th Street and it’s recommended to enter from there. Come into the courtyard and turn right. We are in Building 1, Apt 4A. My buzzer is 4A-2 (DIAL 132 on the Call Board)
Bring your own knitting needles and yarn if you wish to start a project and take it home with you. There will be a limited set of needles and plenty of yarn for those wishing to only learn. All borrowed materials will be returned before leaving.
Needles come in varying sizes from US 1 to US 15. A good size for learning would be a US 8 along with a standard worsted weight yarn in a bright solid color so you can see the stitches better. ProTip: The larger the needles/chunkier the yarn, the faster your project will be complete.
‘MICHAEL’S’ is great and all but independently run yarn stores are a special place where you can find better fibers, colors and quality. Below is a list of yarn stores in Manhattan, each with very knowledgable staff that can help you find what you’re looking for.
The workshop will be focused primarily on the fundamentals of Knitting, Casting On/Knit Stitch/Purl Stitch. Don’t worry about being proficient, just come with some materials and you will be taught! PAst participants who are overachievers do some home tutorials via YouTube before arriving, not required though! We will split up the group between Beginners and Advanced knitters at the beginning into separate spaces. Beginners will get a lesson to get them started and then once complete, the rest of the time is yours to do with what you will. Some people knit the whole time, some people mingle, some beginners take the beginner frustrations out on the snack tray…it’s your adventure.
If you are more advanced that is GREAT! Bring your current project and feel free to help out any beginners you see stuggling. As always feel free to reach out if you have questions for me but the event is about learning a new skill and getting to know other like-minded guys in our neighborhood.
